Why have your pet spayed?
A kitten or a puppy is a pleasant addition to a family, but when it matures and starts having litters of kittens or puppies, these litters and even the cat and dog are usually unwanted.
Most people don't mean to be cruel to animals. In fact, most pet owners will let unwanted kittens and puppies off on their own so they will have a running "chance" rather than have them face almost certain death at the pound or shelter.
But the abandoned animal, whether it goes to a home that really doesn't want it, or if it is let loose to fend for itself in the fields or the streets, doesn't stand a chance. Most abandoned pets starve to death, contact disease by rummaging through garbage, or are victims of other torturous deaths that await abandoned animals. The ones that are presented to shelters don't fare much better. Given the competition for homes, 14 million cats and dogs a year are put to death within a week of being "rescued" by humane groups.
One year later - 3 litters, 12 kittens
2ND year - can become 144 kittens and cats
3rd year - can be 1,728 kittens and cats
4Th year - can be 20,736 kittens and cats
The most effective way to prevent cruelty lies with you, spay your female and male pet and there will be less strays roaming the streets, hungry and sick. Spaying is a simple, safe and permanent operation.
